Upward Basketball

It's hard to believe we are already 1/2 way through Seth's first experience with Upward Basketball. It's been great so far...he really enjoys it! He is playing on the kindergarten team, and even though he's the youngest, he's doing a pretty good job of keeping up with them. He's definitely figured out the "hands-up" defense strategy. They do a really good job...giving each kid a wristband...and then they "guard" the kid on the other team w/ the same color wristband. The baskets are a little lower so they are able to have some success w/ shooting the baskets. His skills have improved dramatically...considering at the evaluation, he could barely dribble and now he can all the way down the court. I'm so glad he's got such an interest in organized activities...and seems to really enjoy them. Can't wait to see how the next 4 games go! GO LEOPARDS!

Toothless Wonder

Well..it finally happened today...that tooth hung on for a lot longer than I thought it would! Today, while playing Payday...it fell out and the look on Seth's face was priceless. He looks so grown up now...it's hard to believe he's not my little boy anymore.

I just finished playing tooth fairy...we settled on $5 for the first tooth (the rest will be much cheaper) I was so nervous he would wake up...but he was out! What a fun milestone for all of us.

And...since we're talking teeth...Grant's first tooth on the top popped through today.

Slacking Again

And here it is another Wednesday and no more posts! Really...I just don't feel like there is anything exciting to say.

--Andy had 2 snow days off last week (we still don't know why) and Seth had 1...it was fun to have some family time together
--We all went to the circus and had a great time
--Grandma & Ted came to Seth's b-ball game. Seth went back to Portland for the night
--I got to spend some time scrapbooking...slowly getting Grant's book up-to-date
--Watched the Colts make it to the Superbowl
--Worked out several times at the Y! Andy & I are actually getting into a routine I think!

The biggest news around our house was the anticipation of an email saying we won a trip to Disney. We found out that Disney was having a contest for families who volunteer together and inspire others to volunteer. We got pretty excited and wrote our essay telling all about how our whole family volunteers with Kate's Kart and have inspired other families to volunteer with Kate's Kart and the growth of the charity. I actually thought that maybe we would have a decent shot at winning one of the 3 free 5 day trips.

Well...we didn't...(after checking our email about 1,000 times on Monday) I'll be honest...I'm a little disappointed. This was one of the only contests that I actually felt like we had a shot at winning. But...I guess it's all good. Although it was mostly free, there would have been some expense for food, not to mention the taxes we would have to had to pay for the gift. Plus...we were just there 18 months ago...and Grant is awfully little...(look at me justifying it).

So...somewhere there are 3 happy families going to Disney! I'm just telling myself Disney didn't want to look like they were "endorsing" our charity. It's my own fault (my pride got the best of me)...and I'll get over it...although for now...I'll just be disappointed and dream a little dream about winning a nice little warm getaway in February.

--POOPS all the time...seriously like 7-8 diapers a day! And usually...he looks a little like this during the "process"
--discovered for himself that he is indeed "a boy" ... thanks to all those diaper changes
--went to the circus...sat on my lap & watched every bit of it
--sat up in the shopping Kart for the first time on a trip to Meijer

29 Weeks

At 29 weeks Grant:

had his 6 month photo shoot--HOW CUTE IS HE!

--added oatmeal, applesauce & peaches to his diet
--broke out in a strange 12 hour rash after the oatmeal---needless to say we haven't tried the oats again (not sure if that was it...but we'll see this week when we try again)
--is trying to get the hang of a sippy cup--hasn't learned out to get anything out yet...just plays with it

--LOVES to have his hair brushed
--gets the cutest little rosy cheeks every once in a while
--continues to make new sounds every day
--can now pretty much roll where ever he wants to go
--LOVES LOVES LOVES giving wet kisses...will give them me every time I pick him up (awww!) --Is not sleeping well at night at all! He wakes up 3-6 times a night...crying! Usually, a trip in there, replacing the paci, and turning on his singing birds...and he's good to go! But still...mommy & daddy aren't getting any sleep!
--is going through baby boot camp to teach him how to get himself back to sleep! Over an hour of screaming and kicking...yes...the the little stinker just kicked his legs up & down. I think he may have a temper
--Speaking of tempers...starts screaming when he drops (or is out of reach) something he wants
(here he is happily playing with his favorite bath toy-a whistle)

(here he is 3 seconds later after dropping said favorite toy)

A major milestone has come our way!

Is it me...or is this a little too early for this to be happening?

Seth had been complaining a little that his teeth were hurting when he put them together...well..tonight before dinner, he realized why! Yep...that bottom tooth is obvioulsy wiggly...I really don't think it will be long now!

That week...

It's been that week...the 2 year mark of the loss of our little girl. Last Friday marked 2 years since we kissed her goodbye...today marked 2 years since her memorial service. Really...2 years? In some ways...it's been forever! A lot has happened in those 2 years...a lot of things where we wish she was with us. But in some ways...it just seems like yesterday. There are those certain memories that just aren't fading. For me...it's those last few minutes with her. I can vividly remember everything everybody was doing...the things that were said. In fact...the nights I can't sleep..it's usually that memory that won't fade! In some ways...it's a good memory, there was lots of love and peace. But still...it's a HARD HARD memory to re-live over and over. On those nights...I have to force myself to think of other things. For Andy...it's that memory of the last walk down the hallway, the night before!

So...we cling to those memories, as for now, it's all we have...the good and the bad. We are so thankful for the legacy that has been built through Kate's Kart. Everyday we are AMAZED at how many people "know" our little Kate...to us, that means a bunch.
It has only been two years and we're still figuring out what to "do" on the 15th! This year...Andy took and 1/2 day and we all went out to lunch (and of course we had some ice cream). Then...we dropped off the boys with my parents and Andy & I did a running of Kate's Kart at the hospital. Then...just a quiet night at home...We did continue our "tradition" of sending balloons to Kate in heaven. I asked Seth what he wanted to write on the note to Kate...his reply: "Have a good time!"

I was looking back at last year's photo...Seth was wearing the same pants. I'm not sure what his fixation with orange/red and are...just know I don't dress him like that!
We appreciate the love and support we received this past week...it still means a bunch to be loved on by so many! Thank you!

So Much To Do...So Little To Say

Well...I've obviously been in another blogging slump this new year. If it weren't for Grant's weekly updates (which I hope to do for a year) who knows what I would have posted. It's not that we haven't been busy...we have. But for the sake of our own record keeping...I'll post a little of what's happened the past few weeks in the lives of the rest of us.

--Seth had his first Upward Basketball Game last weekend. They had 2 practices way before Christmas...and I was worried since they hadn't practiced due to a cancellation...but they did AWESOME. I was really impressed with the group of kindergartners. It should be an exciting 8 weeks...except that we have the early game at 8 most weeks!

--We rejoined the Y. Andy and I are feeling our age and know we still have a TON of wagon pulling, horsey rides and football games to play in the backyard. Grant is now old enough to go into the child-care area, so we felt it was important to get active. And...I have a goal of losing 40lbs for my 40th b-day in July. So...I am going most mornings after Seth goes to school. Plus...we can get back to our Friday night swimming at the Y and pizza night routine!

--Kate's Kart is continuing to go well...we had a very blessed December and received a ton of book and $$ donations. We are in the works of adding our 11th hospital and have applied for several grants.

--Andy is back at work...feeling the stress of the governor's announcement that funds will be significantly decreased for the schools. Their small system is trying everything to avoid cuts, but Andy says that may happen.

--Seth is fascinated with the Wii...he LOVES playing it and is actually pretty good at it...he beats me all the time. Anyone have any fun games their family plays that they recommend?

So...not much...which I guess is good. We're just living life...enjoying each other and watching our kids grow up way too fast!
