Halloween Night

What a beautiful night for trick or treating...really, you couldn't have asked for a better night. The boys were excited to get on their costumes again...Grant knew exactly what that meant: CANDY!

It's always a treat to stop in at great neighbor's houses.

Since we had a ton of candy...we only went for about 45 minutes...basically around the block. The boys were excited about handing out the candy at our house.

I loved it...the boys costumes were a huge hit. Little kids were so excited...some even wanted to come up and touch Seth! Obviously, he was easy to we heard lots of comments from even across the street!

After our candy was gone...we jumped in the car to go see some friends...I had told Grant, "no more candy"...but the little monkey ate a whole Twix bar through the wrapper.

And Grant loved looking at all his candy: his favorite by far: suckers! A big one and a little one!

Making Pumpkins

It's been so busy lately that we realized we hadn't even carved pumpkins yet this year. After being at Chain O' Lakes and seeing a ton of pumpkins...they really wanted to carve some. I thought I would just grab a couple at the store today! Nope...they were full fledged into putting up their Christmas more pumpkins. I didn't have time to go to a we just grabbed the 2 small ones off the porch display. The boys drew their faces (okay, Seth drew his face...Grant just scribbled) Andy and I did the cutting...

They were all about making a "sick" pumpkin this year! Kinda appropriate since they both still think the inside is "icky" and won't touch it. They looked cute out on our porch tonight for trick or treating. They were nothing fancy...but for a couple little was a fun way to spend the time before trick or treating.

Weekend at Chain O' Lakes

Chalk up another great fall weekend. The boys and I headed up to Chain O' Lakes after school to spend a few days camping. (Andy had to finish his contract job putting on mailboxes). We were spoiled by Oompa's good cookin'. My brother and his wife and family were there too! We all had dinner together on Friday night....spaghetti with sauce cooked over the fire all day.

We took a few bikerides and walks around the campground. There is a decorating contest...and people go all out decorating for the weekend. It was a cool crisp evening...perfect night for taking walks. Of course we had to cook some s'mores...and sip on some hot cider!

It was a cold cold the boys and I slept in the RV with my parents.

Saturday morning we had some yummy b-fast burritos again cooked by Oompa. We played on the playground, took walks, rode bikes and sat around the fire. We also painted trick or treat bags (the pumpkins were all gone)

We took a walk down to some friends who were making homemade kettle popcorn, over the fire in a huge iron kettle! It was so yummy. It was the strangest thing...a few moments before trick or treating started...a huge wind storm came...the leaves were blowing was a blustery fall day...kinda cool to see the leaves falling like snowflakes. By this time..Andy had come up and we got all dressed up in our costumes. I was so happy with how Seth's turned cute!

We had an hour to trick or treat throughout the's really cool. Everyone just sits out at the edge of the road and hands out candy. There were about 700 kids trick or at times it was a little crazy. But everyone is into it...with decorated campsites and some even in costume. Fortunately, the wind died down and it was beautiful afternoon to take a walk.
Grant was just mesmorized by the whole thing...he caught on pretty quick...and his sweet little voice was so cute..."trick or treat!"

After that was over...we took a hayride...all throughout the campground!

And obviously, after that...we had one tired little boy! I took him on a bike ride and he was OUT! Andy headed home and my and boys stayed through supper, a campfire, some more s'mores and another walk around to see all the decorations. People had been busy carving pumpkins all day.

We headed home around 10 and both boys were already sacked out and fell right into bed! It was a fun 2 days...already making plans for next make it even better!

On Sunday afternoon...Seth's favorite thing: counting and sorting the loot! We have more candy than we know what to do with!

School Party

Friday was Seth's "Fall Festival" at school. I took my chances and took Grant with me since I had volunteered to help out. It worked out great...I was in charge of this bean bag toss...and Grant spent most of the time chasing the bean bags. He was GREAT.

Seth had a lot of fun with his friends...and it was fun for me to see some of the kids in his class...since they all came to the game, I got a chance to meet all of them. They were loaded up with some goodies and fun snacks and toys!

It was a fun afternoon!

Feeling Crafty

There are so many cute ideas out there for Halloween! The food choices are so cute...we would have so many fun treats in our house...but that would just mean I would eat them. I am amazed at every one's creativity. I chose a couple fun things I saw and made some fun things:

1st...was these shirts. I'm not sure how much longer Seth will let me make him shirts..but he was thrilled with this ghost shirt...he said it looked like a video game! And...Grant thought his "candy" shirt was fun too! I just love easy and so fun!Then...before our weekend camping...I saw this fun snack mix! These are bugles dipped in colored chocolate! and then added to a Carmel snack mix made out of popcorn, pretzels, peanuts and Chex a few Reese's Pieces. This was a little addicting! I found this cute recipe at Cookies and Cups -- a very fun food blog. It turned out yummy...I just think I need more patience in letting the chocolate drip so it doesn't pool when you set it down on the paper. my dream life, I would make fun snacks, shirts and decorations all day long! I wouldn't be creative enough to think them up...but with the Internet and days would be full! But...for today: grocery shopping, cleaning and diaper changing are on my agenda.

Fall Break!

Last weekend (21-23) was fall break! Luckily, Andy and Seth were on the same schedule. And...fortunately, Nana and Oompa let us borrow their RV again. After Seth's parent teacher conference (which went really well)...we loaded up and headed about an hour away to Bluffton (Ouabache) State Park. We found a secluded wooded site and set up camp. It was a beautiful fall night for cooking hotdogs over the fire! and s'mores!
Nope...Grant wasn't a fan! He much preferred just eating the chocolate

It wasn't all roughing it...we snuggled in and watched a movie before heading to bed!
Saturday morning...we rode our bikes to the bison area...and then hiked the mile trail around the enclosure! Grant was very curiuos...and had to touch everything we passed!

One of the bison was really could hear him grunting! The baby bison wasn't close enough to get a good glimpse of...but you could see him! He was so cute...born this summer!

Then...a short bike ride to the fire tower! Grant was NOT happy that he couldn't get down...but with the open windows...we just weren't taking a chance! Super daddy carried him up all 100 feet! Seth loved the fire! He spent some of the afternoon just throwing sticks in!

then....Seth and I took a hike while Daddy and Grant napped!

Grandma and Ted came up for the afternoon/evening! We took a LONG hike (think we got lost) back to the bison and fire tower!

Found a cool teepee in the woods! Ted and Seth climbed the tower again!

Tinfoil dinners on the fire...and more s'mores! Well...maybe just burning marshmallows! That was much more fun!

Sunday morning we took a long bike ride on the bike path...and explored the lake!

and found the Wabash River...perfect for throwing more sticks in!

and climbing over dead trees! and spending a few good days in the the beautiful fall weather with my boys!

It was a great relaxing getaway!
