Winterfest in Portland

Our holiday festivities officially got a kick start on November 16 when we headed to Portland to spend some time with Grandma and Grandpa Ted.  We drove down on Friday after the boys got home from school.  Grandma had made Thanksgiving and we gorged ourselves on the first round of turkey and stuffing (she does make AWESOME stuffing).  We played some games and just hung out.   Grandma and I stayed up and watched a Hallmark Christmas movie!  That channel is dangerous...if we had that...all I would do is sit and watch sappy movies all night long.
Saturday morning Grandma and Grandpa took the boys to breakfast with Alvin the Chipmunk...I slept in!  WOO HOO! Something about Grandma's spare bedroom...I have NO problem sleeping in there!
Andy and I went to Walmart and bought some decorations to make a wreath for Kate's tombstone...such a surreal time!   I do love picking out some fun pink girly things though.
After lunch...we went downtown and took a horse drawn carriage ride around town.  It was really pleasant outside which made for a nice ride and wait in line.

We toured the courthouse and looked at all the trees.

The boys went back to watch some football while Grandma and I checked out a few shops.
At 6:00 we headed back downtown for the light parade!  Small town parades always crack me up, because I think anyone can be in it.  In this case, you just have to strap some Christmas lights to your truck!   There were several fun float and the boys LOVE all the candy that gets thrown their way.

After the parade, several of Ted's daughter's and their families came over for a soup supper.   It's been great getting to know them over the past few years.
We put the boys in their jammies and headed home around 9:30!  It was a great kick-off to our Thanksgiving week!

November...the 1st 2 weeks.

November started out with Seth's first bible quiz meet on November 3.  It was held at our church which made it super convenient.    He did amazingly well (of course) and got 2 perfect rounds which put him in the top 10 for that competition.  They are studying Acts this year.  He was  a little hesitant to do it again this year...but once he got going and experienced the 1st competition....he was fired up and ready to go.   Now we just have to wait until January for the next meet.

Meanwhile...Grant is just as ornery and playful as always.  We have 1 single tree in the backyard that produces 1 small pile of leaves.  Grant is used to playing in MOUNDS AND MOUNDS of leaves at Grandmas...but that didn't stop him him from having some fun 1 sunny afternoon.

On November 9, Seth had a special honor at school.  Each kid wrote a letter to a veteran thanking them for their service.  Seth's letter was picked from his class, which meant he got to read his letter in front of the whole school on Veteran's Day program.  I was really proud of him.  He can be a little shy in front of people...but he is slowly outgrowing that!   YEAH for Seth!
And...on November 10...Nana and Oompa treated the whole family to see A Christmas Story at the Civic Theatre.   The older boys loved it and got a lot of the humor of the play.
It was Grant's first live play....and he did really really well!  He did think it was over each time the lights when out and there was a scene change....but overall he did awesome.
We were even treated to pizza at Clara's afterwards!  Love my mom and dad...and so appreciate all the opportunities they provide for us.

Catch Up Night we sit on the last night of November and not 1 post this month.   What is up with me?   I always think about...but it just doesn't get done.   But...for the sake of keeping my "diary" up to date and for Sherri...I will get all caught up...and PROMISE PROMISE to do at least 2 a week through December.

Looking back at my looks as if we left off with.....

Well...problem #1 was that I was out of space for pictures...guess nothing in life is free!  So...I splurged the $2 a month and upgraded my storage space....only to also find out that our computer (that is really messed up now) won't let me upload any pictures.  UGHGHG!

I guess this is the sign that it really is time to take it in somewhere.   It randomly plays this bizzare music throughout the day...and occasionally we hear a conversation between really does appear that "big brother is watching us" . won't load a lot of things/websites.  So...I'll add that to my list of things to do.

In the meantime, maybe I can get Andy off the laptop (he's way busy watching you tube  clips) and transfer some pictuers over so that I can get caught up!

I tried...really I did!
